At the Tate Modern they have this temporary outdoor installation spraying a thin vapour mist in to the surrounding patio area. Children are jumping in and out of this 'art' fog, daring themselves to enter an opaque void and excited by their own experimentation and realisation. The air is alive with their whoops of enjoyment, the chance to momentarily loose their identity and disappear beyond the reach of the watchful parent.

Back in the studio I'm on the lookout to disconnect reality, to render moment to my own making, a scene of trauma, children fleeing from a catastrophic happening. When working as a photojournalist an image of a child playing at Tate Modern might have raised comment but not publication. The same image captioned as, 'child fleeing catasrophic happening', has real value inextricably linked to conflict, or disaster. Perception is a remarkable entity.
