Opening of exhibition, For My Love Of War

Mark Cator

For My Love of War is my own myth and invention, my own belief that humanity is in awe of its own extinction through war and that the chils is held hostage to a militarisation of perception that is totally out of step with ancient romantic ideals of conflict. Over the sixteen years of seeing into the shadows of war, I have railed against its aesthetics, its deliberate glamour and yet the irony is that war without glamour, today, becomes even more sinister. In the current dystopian frontier of defence it is when we don't see war that we need to worry. Perhaps glamour then is a small price to pay for the inadequacies of man. I have come full circle and feel trapped in the wings of Walter Benjamin's angel of history.
